Ken Bailey 1952-2019

Ken VanAssche 1950-2019

I am sorry to report that classmate Ken VanAssche died in a plane crash on May 6, 2019. His Everett Herald obituary is here.

April 9, 1950 – May 6, 2019 Family, friends, planes, motorcycles, snowmobiles, heavy equipment and epic parties at the river… these were a few of Ken's great loves in life. It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we say goodbye. On Monday, May 6, 2019, Kenneth W. VanAssche, 69, of Chelan, WA, died shortly after take-off at the Chelan Airport in his plane. It was a beautiful day and he was ready to soar. After learning to fly recently, he wanted to check flying off his "bucket list of life". His list was long, exciting and filled with adventures. The stories of his life were great and we have lost a true legend among us. Ken was born on April 9, 1950 in Everett, WA to Calvin and June VanAssche and was the second of 13 children. He was raised in Snohomish, WA. Ken moved to Sultan, WA where he raised his son and daughter with their mother, Ginny, and he later moved to Chelan, WA. Throughout his life, Ken owned and operated Ken's Tractor Company. Everyone Ken encountered came away enchanted with his stories and excitement for living life to the fullest. He had many friends in the Cascade Driftskippers Snowmobile group that he'd built lasting friendships with. He loved a good party and took every opportunity to gather family and friends and share his home, hospitality and love of life. May you soar on wings of Eagles, Ken. Your family and friends all love you and will miss you dearly! He is survived by his daughter, Jessie Kindle (Byron); granddaughters, Faith and Isabelle; father, Calvin W. VanAssche; siblings: Genny Arnold (Tony), Rodney VanAssche (Gail), Margaret Griffiths, Lorie Berkey (Walt), Pat Malgesini (John), Janet Thibert (Lee), Keran VanAssche (JD Johnson), Pete VanAssche (Jackie), Barbara Appleby, Steve VanAssche (Christel), Jim VanAssche (Joy), Jay VanAssche (April) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Dez VanAssche and his mother, June VanAssche. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ken VanAssche Memorial Fund, in care of Jessie Kindle, 41421 Nelson Place, Gold Bar, WA 98251 Condolences may be left on the Ken VanAssche Memorial Page on Facebook. We will have a celebration of life on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Hidden Meadows in Snohomish, WA from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Paradise may be lost for now, but it will be back and better then ever with your help.

As you all are probably aware, the fires in Northern California flared up this week and completely demolished the beautiful town of Paradise, California. Unfortunately for our friends, the Hartley Family, they have lost everything in the blaze. Two family homes and the beloved family business, Joy Lyn's Candies, which was recently passed from Bill & Pam to the next Generation of Harley owners Glenn & Jody, were all gone in less then a day.

The Hartley family has touched the lives of countless people through their Family Candy store as well as all of the tireless hours they have put into events such as "Chocolate Fest" which brings the community together in support of non-profit youth organizations. You all will remember "Billy Wonka" wandering the festival taking pictures with everyone, making sure the event is a huge success and that all attendees have a deliciously good time.

The Hartley family has been doing things for their friends, family and community for a very long time, and now it is our time to show them how much we appreciate them and help them get back on their feet as they rent a home together and work on rebuilding their lives, homes, and their beloved Joy Lyn's Candies.

Kerry Hedahl, Obituary Everett Herald

I am sorry to report the death of classmate Kerry Hedahl, on Oct 8, 2018. Here is his obituary from the Everett Herald.

Here's the text: June 18, 1952 - October 8, 2018 Kerry Charles Hedahl, 66, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA. He spent the last few weeks of his life with family and friends before succumbing to cancer. Kerry was born on June 18, 1952 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in Snohomish, WA, with his parents, Phyllis (Bobbie) and Irvin Hedahl. He was the third oldest child in his family being younger brother to Perry and Linda and older brother to sister, Marlene. His family was active in Scouting and Kerry earned his Eagle Scout. The skills he learned as a scout helped him enjoy all the outdoor adventures he had. Kerry graduated from Snohomish High School in 1970. He started working for Bickford Motors in Snohomish and then went to work for Motor Trucks, Inc. in Everett. Kerry married Cindy Tenney in 1974 and was blessed with two children, Jillian and Shayne. He was the owner and master mechanic at Eagle Truck and Equipment in Lake Stevens, WA. Kerry later worked for Viking Equipment and then started the company Viking Rentals in Smokey Point before retiring in 2000. Kerry married Anita McCall in 1998. He moved into her family home on Camano Island, WA, with her children Ben, Sarah, and Matt. Kerry's greatest joys in life were his family vacations, his dogs, hunting, camping and fishing. The start of a good story from Kerry always revolved around some or all of his greatest joys. Some he shared often were...Sing-a-long weenie roasts, "the biggest buck you ever saw," "I was told not to kick that bucket" and "I lost that lure when." He is survived by his wife and best fishing partner, Anita, and their five children, Jillian Hedahl (Jeff) Sorenson, Ben (Jaimi) McCall, Shayne (Brittney) Hedahl, Sarah Remick and her partner Jeffrey Harnden, Matt (Shannon) McCall; ten grandchildren, and sister, Marlene (Steve) Maier Arnhold. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobbie Tuengel and Irvin Hedahl; his brother, Perry Hedahl and sister, Linda (Mac and Bill) Newman. A Celebration of Life will be held November 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 10120 Chapel Hill Road, Lake Stevens, WA 98258.

Lorna Ford Kelly Obituary

On Sunday, August 5, 2018, Lorna Mae Kelly, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with our Lord and Savior at the age of 66. Lorna was born on May 1, 1952 in Everett, Washington to Max and Una Ford. She was raised on a farm in Machias, Washington along with her two brothers and two sisters. Lorna, as well as her siblings, had a passion for horses that led to her dad founding and leading the Rounders 4-H club. They would host horse play-days on their property for years after Lorna graduating from Snohomish High School in 1970. Lorna was known for her adventurous spirit. She continued to own horses most of her life, gaming in local play-days with her daughters and trail riding in the Cascade Mountains with her family. While working at Fluke in marketing, she met the love of her life, Bryan, and was married on September 22, 1984. Later retiring from Fluke with over two decades with the company. She stayed in the Snohomish area her entire life until recently relocating to Arlington, WA, with her husband to their dream house on the lake. After retirement, Lorna was passionate about breeding, raising and showing pedigreed Ragdoll cats, so much so that she owned a successful business selling Ragdoll kittens all over the world. Over the years, she has met many of her close friends from it. She was a world traveler, taking along her mother, husband, children, and grandchildren on her adventures. Lorna enjoyed cruising the Mediterranean, horseback riding the Canadian Rocky Mountains, exploring the Mayan ruins, touring New Zealand by camper van, traversing a wild African safari, glided through Venice's grand waterways, walked the old roads of Israel, viewing Iceland by Icelandic pony, listening to the waves at her brother, Lonney and Stacey's Mexican villa and many other exciting trips. Lorna has lived a life full of love and passion for her family and friends. Lorna was predeceased by her father, Max, aunt, Diane, and nephew, Justin. She is survived by her husband, Bryan of 33 years, her mother, Una; brothers, Lonney and Kerry, sisters, Maxine and Tamera; children Stacey, Kelli (Jazon), Hannah (Chris), and nine grandchildren, Kylie, Sammie, Kirsa, Brad, Wesley, Julia, Colt, Georgia, Dawson and with another granddaughter expected in October. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations can be made out to the Burn Road Bible Church in Lorna's name. A celebration of Lorna's life will be held on August 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at LifePoint Church, 14619 28th St NE, Lake Stevens.
