The Hub Closes

From Keith Olson: Bad news. The Hub has gone the way of Herfy's, closing on Sunday after a 50-year run. Another Snohomish institution lost. Sad. Had my last Panther Burger on Friday, lunching at the Hub with Joe Thaut and the DeBellis brothers. Like that line in Pulp Fiction, I can only say, "That's one tasty burger." Almost ordered a Diet Coke to go with it, then thought, why bother. Washed it down with a straight Coke and had fries too, although I didn't finish all those. No way I could ever have challenged Howard Anderson's record of five PB's in 50 minutes. I think Panther Burgers went for $1 back then. Those were the days.

Here's an article that appeared in The Herald last month, about a possible sale of The Hub. Unfortunately, it didn't sell, and is now closed.

Harry Renken's Woodchoppers

From Harry Renken: Well, gee, at the risk of looking egotistical, here's what I'm pretty proud of: Woodchoppers. I have built numerous fullsize choppers. Some I sold. Some were presents. Some are tributes to fallen bikers. Some have been in newspapers, magazines, taverns, bars, art gallerys, bike shows and numerous parades. It's just a hobby for me but I'm proud of every one of them and wished I could have kept them all. There is one on display on the Menzel lake road 4 miles south of Granite Falls going towards Lake Roesiger. There is one on the wall in the Spar Tree tavern in Granite falls. There is one on the roof of the Stump bar and grill in Arlington. But I do have 2 real Harleys in my garage. They're plum purdy.

I live near Black Diamond Washington. I was a touring musician from 1971 until 1990 when I started working for Nordstrom. I was there until 2006.

I am married and have 2 daughters, Chloe' is a Music Education Major at University of Puget Sound and Eden is in 10th. grade at Bellarmine Prep. in Tacoma.

I also had a son Creed who was born in 1975 and was killed in a car accident in 1993.

Presently I am playing music Full time and doing non profit work in Christian Camping for Kids.

“THE COLLECTIVE” is a highly versatile group that plays special events and corporate functions with one goal in mind: Client Satisfaction! The group generally performs as a trio but is able to easily modify its format for any venue, drawing from a "collective" of musicians -- from duo, trio, dance/vocal band, to a variety act with full horn section -- to suit your entertainment needs. This highly-skilled and sought-after group of musicians has been providing a unique musical experience in the Northwest since 1993. The core members of “THE COLLECTIVE” are: W. Michael Jaap, Garey Williams, and Randall Wallace. These musicians have each performed with countless national artists throughout the United States and internationally as well.

Randall Wallace - Highly acclaimed guitarist, providing a stylistic approach to all genres of music. Randall's professional career has spanned three decades, working with regional and national artists in virtually every musical style. Randall has performed with such greats as Albert Collins, Ramsey Lewis, Jose Feliciano, Dionne Warwick, Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers, Buddy Miles and more. Randall's signature guitar style is classic and effortless, giving each genre of music the precise musical "touch".

W. Michael Jaap - International performing artist, across all genres and venues. Expert proficiency in piano, synthesizer, Hammond and Pipe organ, vocals, drums, percussion, bass guitar, harmonica, trombone, computer synthesis, PLUS both studio and live engineering. Professionally, Michael has done it all, from opening for likes of Albert Collins, Deep Purple, Tower of Power, The Pointer Sisters, Lou Rawls, Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, Aaron Neville, George Benson to sharing the same stage with James Brown, B.B. Three of his favorites are: "Perfectly Korla," Korla Wygal, “Got No One”, Jade Williams, and "C'est Si Bon," Neil Andersson. Michael has also composed, produced, and arranged various projects for film and other mediums.

Garey Williams - A world-class drummer and uniquely gifted educator. With over thirty years playing experience, Garey has received attention from international publications and well known drummers.
